Aaron, Manager of Baker's Club Brisbane Airport

Tell us about your background.

I came over to Australia from New Zealand in 2008 and started with Baker's Club North Lakes as a store manager.
When the store was sold to Franchisees, I worked for IGA as the bakery manager. My bakery was awarded the "The best Queensland IGA bakery of the year", which made me very proud.
When Baker's Club opened a new store in 2010 at the Brisbane Airport Village, I was very happy to come back to Baker's Club, as I don't have to work at night any more.

What's new at Baker's Club?

It's everything! Baker's Club is based on more than 160 years of European tradition and they opened the first of now seven stores in Ashmore at the Gold Coast five years ago.
In the centre of the shop we have a glass front stone oven, where we bake fresh all day.
We are a little different to the traditional Australian bakeries, as we are specialists in European sourdough breads and gluten free breads, and we also make fantastic sandwiches from our delicious bread and roll range.

What do you enjoy about managing Baker's Club?

We have no night work and the all-day baking in a stone oven in front of customer's eyes is combined with customer service.
As I like people and love to communicate, it's just perfect for me.

What's great about working at Airport Village?

To be honest - the atmosphere is great. It is very clean, thanks to the cleaners in the centre who care for that.
All the staff of the Airport administration and the team members of all other retailers are always friendly and in good spirits. And, of course, the pretty women! I love being here every day!

What are your tips for delicious baking?

You need the best ingredients - we have to import some European flour we couldn't find here in Australia. And then of course the fantastic Australian wheat flour, which is one of the best and strongest in the world - very rich in protein. But all that is nothing without real freshness. We understand that at Baker's Club. And that means: All day hot from the oven into the customer's carry bag.
